What a pro does

A leak almost never starts in the boiler body itself. Older brick homes on the north side of town often run cast iron sections that have been repacked and repiped by several hands over the years, and the water usually escapes at a relief valve, a circulator seal, or one of those older fittings rather than at the vessel, so the first task is tracing the drip back to its true source. Pressure that climbs until the valve opens points at an expansion tank that has lost its air charge. It's worth cutting power and closing the feed until someone gets eyes on it.
